Thordendal, Bergstrand, and Margarit embark on a journey through time, revisiting the genesis of their musical voyage.

While the Area 33 SDX stands as a comprehensive repository of metal drum sounds, the trio felt there was more to explore. They sought to delve deeper, tracing their steps back to the very beginnings. Thus, the Area 33 – Origin SDX was born.

Returning to Fredrik Thordendal’s studio 33 in Stockholm, Sweden, they meticulously captured the essence of classic hard rock and heavy metal from the late 1960s to the 1980s. Five drum kits, each representing a distinct era, were meticulously recorded. These kits, rare and vintage gems, were captured with unparalleled detail using both traditional and unconventional microphone setups, including stereo pairs and ambient mics.

This SDX offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing users to sculpt their sound with precision. With a plethora of drum options and microphone channels, the possibilities are endless. From thunderous lows to crisp highs, every nuance is captured in pristine detail.

Led by Fredrik Thordendal and Daniel Bergstrand, this project embodies a labor of love for drums and their sonic possibilities. It transcends genre boundaries, offering a treasure trove of inspiration rooted in the rich history of rock and metal.

Engineered at 33, Fredrik Thordendal’s personal studio in Stockholm, Sweden, and featuring the talents of Leo Margarit on drums, this SDX is a testament to passion and dedication in the pursuit of sonic excellence.
